New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie now thinks QB Tim Tebow is "a winner" - NFL News
There was one New York Jets player who was really unhappy with his team bringing in quarterback Tim Tebow in a trade with the Denver Broncos. That was cornerback Antonio Cromartie who dissed Tebow on Twitter.
Just days after his rant on the social network, Cromartie made a fantastic U-turn and on Friday lavished praise on the 24-year-old in an interview to the New York Daily news.
“He’s going to bring another element to the Jets. He’s a winner. He’s a guy that never quits. If you give him a chance to win a game, he’s going to go out and win it. I think that’s what (general manager) Mike Tannenbaum and Rex (Ryan) saw in him.”
That is a shift no one saw coming and when probed further about his comments the cornerback said that he holds no regrets over his previous comments and said that the media misread his statements.
“I don’t have any regrets. I think a lot of people took what I said the wrong way. People took it as me dissing Tebow. I never dissed Tebow. I just said we don’t need him on our team because Mark is our quarterback. I would never take a shot at any NFL player. He’s pulled his teams out of predicaments.”
Cromartie had earlier in the week said that the Jets are not making the right decision bringing in Tim Tebow.
He went on to add that current starting quarterback Mark Sanchez needs weapons and the management should look into free agency to get players that will help Sanchez spread the plays.
Cromartie also in what could be construed as a dig on Tebow and his massive fan following said that the Jets always sold out their games and he would be better suited moving to teams such as Jacksonville Jaguars or Miami Dolphins.
Now though the cornerback apparently loves Tebow and has embraced Tebow-Mania as the rest of the Jets fan base.
New York Jets signed Tebow in a trade with the Denver Broncos as they gave up a fourth and sixth round draft pick while gaining a seventh round pick.
Tebow will likely challenge Mark Sanchez for the starting role and it remains to be seen for how long the quarterback can maintain his position in front of the challenge Tebow poses.
