New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis clarifies contract stance - NFL News
New York Jets cornerback, Darrelle Revis is one of the best defensemen in the National Football League (NFL) and is a cornerstone of the Jets defence.
Drafted by the franchise in 2007 as a first round pick, the player has established himself as a big part of the Jets defence and the team struggles considerably without the cornerback on the field.
However, Revis’ career at the Jets has been defined by two big holdouts over contracts as the cornerback has turned to not appearing for training to get the contract he wants.
His last holdout was in 2010 when he refused to show up for the Jets training camp and the franchise in the end made a deal with Revis signing him up to a four-year $ 46 million contract.
That contract also has a safety for the Jets with the contract getting extended by three more years at $ 3 million a year if the cornerback decides to hold out of training for a third time.
In the offseason news was circulating that the cornerback, is not happy with the terms of his current contract and could decide to hold out to force the Jets hand.
However, on Thursday in an interview with the Star-Ledger Revis clarified his position and said that he never was unhappy with his current deal.
“People think I’m mad or unhappy. I’m not mad or unhappy. It’s a thing where some things were said, and I think that’s what people are really focusing on. It was a Band-Aid type of contract, and they were going to redo it or renew it, and it hasn’t happened
yet.”
He also went on to say that his biggest wish was to end his career playing for the Jets and retire at the franchise.
“I want to retire here. I think Mike (Tannenbaum) knows that. I think Rex (Ryan) knows that. (The Jets) drafted me, they gave me a chance, so yeah, I want to be here and never play for another organization again.”
Hopefully for Jets fans that is the case and many of them will not be too happy at the prospect of their star player once again holding out.
