New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis focussed on new season, might consider holding out - NFL News
The New York Jets might once again face a holdout from cornerback, Darrelle Revis whose current contract was just a stop-gap measure by the franchise to end a previous holdout.
Revis two years ago did not show up for training camp and held out for 35-days to force the Jets to provide him with a compensatory package in line with his monetary demands.
The whole saga was captured on film by the crew from football reality show “Hard Knocks” and the public got to see in-depth the backstage negotiations that took place between the Jets, general manager, Mark Tannenbaum and the player.
Tannenbaum finally ended the star player’s holdout after offering him a four-year deal which paid Revis the salary he demanded for the first two years.
Now with those two-years over and done, Revis expects negotiations on another deal and could consider holding out once again to force the Jets hand.
Speaking to the media, the Jets best defenseman said.
"I just don't know. I'm not saying I am going to hold out; I'm not saying I'm not going to hold out. Right now my focus is just being on the team. ... I'm getting ready for the 2012-13 season. That's all I can do."
The Jets, general manager was asked about Revis’ contract during a pre-draft press conference but Tannenbaum dodged questions and would just say that his star cornerback is currently under contract.
"Darrelle is obviously a really important part of our team. We're really looking forward to the 2012 season and, hopefully, accomplishing a lot of great things together."
Revis also said that he would discuss things when the time comes.
“If it's for my future to be here, then it is. If it's not, for me to be somewhere else, then it is. We'll address that when the time comes."
The Jets will hope that they do not face another holdout from the cornerback who remains one of their best players and has delivered consistently from the time he joined the franchise in 2007.
This year the Gang Green are looking to rebuild locker room harmony and return back to the playoffs after a season to forget in 2011-12.
