New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis says locker room dysfunction "blew out of proportion" - NFL News
New York Jets were the epitome of dysfunction and poor locker room relationships last season as their playoff challenge got blown in their face with the franchise ending up with an 8-8 record and losing its last three must-win games.
Cornerback Darrelle Revis in an interview on ESPN told exactly what went wrong inside the Jets locker room as friction between quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes reached its nadir.
When asked about the locker room Revis replied with just three words that summed it all up perfectly.
"Disarray right now."
He went on into detail of what happened to the Jets at the end.
"People were just trying to find ways to win. Santonio wanted the ball. It wasn't negative, I think he wanted to be the guy who wins games for us. And then it blew up out of proportion and then it was Santonio is not siding with Mark, and it just blew out
of proportion.”
The Jets players brought their dirty laundry out to dry in front of the media as Sanchez was labelled lazy by his own teammates who refused to divulge their names.
Santonio Holmes refused to play with Sanchez and the whole season went down in flames as the franchise missed out on the playoff rounds for the first time under coach Rex Ryan.
Making things worse was seeing their city rivals New York Giants end up lifting the Lombardi Trophy at the Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
The Jets this season made a trade to bring in Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos in a move that has received mixed feedback from fans and players alike.
Revis though praised Tebow as a winner in the interview and said that his addition would help Sanchez and bring out the best in him.
"I think [Tebow will] have a big impact on [Sanchez] in terms of just trying to maybe push him a little bit more,"
Adding further he said.
“Tebow is a winning quarterback. Mark is a winning quarterback, too.”
Hopefully for the Jets they can figure out how to bring the team together to fight for that Super Bowl that Rex Ryan has promised to deliver each season.
With Tebow pushing Sanchez and helping him to realise the talent he no doubt possesses the Gang Green might just be able to pull together for once.
