New York Jets DE Quinton Coples hopes to fulfil Head coach Rex Ryan’s expectation – NFL News
New York Jets defensive end Quinton Coples has tried to cover up the bad perception being made about him after head coach Rex Ryan criticised his attitude in Sunday’s game against Carolina Panthers.
Coples talked with The Star Ledger on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 and gave his stance about the issue, aiming to clear things up about the event.
Coach Ryan came after the game and said that he did not like the ‘woe is me’ look around Coples’ face when he was asked to remain on the field while the rest of starters came out.
Ryan also said that Coples looked a little winded at that moment. The defensive lineman did not hear about the head coach’s comment until the practice session next day where he heard the news from fellow rookies. Clarifying the matter, Coples said:
"I don’t think it bothered me at all. I think he's got high expectations for me, and at the end of the day, I've got to meet his expectations. It was a point in the time where his expectations are high. It was one of those situations where it may look bad,
but at the end of the day, it wasn’t.”
Coples reiterated that he might have looked a bit winded, but there was no intention of doing so. Ryan also criticised the play by the second team in the second half of the game, in which Coples also played a role.
Talking about Coples on Tuesday, Ryan said that he was not worried about the rookie’s output going into the start of the season. He said:
“I just gave a very honest deal on him, I just saw him give that puppy dog look. The puppy dog barks a lot (too). He has some bite to him. He has had three sacks."
Coples was drafted by Jets as the 16th overall pick this year. He has shown good ability to understand the play during three preseason games. Jets have asked him to give the same kind of output during the practice sessions that are a vital part
to prepare for playing the entire season.
