New York Jets DE Quinton Coples says franchise testing him across defensive line positions - NFL News
New York Jets have big plans for the newest addition to their roster.
Defensive end, Quinton Coples who was picked by the franchise in the first round of the 2012 drafts by the franchise is being tested in practice at a number of different positions as the coaches truly test the former North Carolina University player.
Coples speaking to the media on Friday after taking part in practice said Friday according to the
New York Daily News.
“They’ll use me all across the board from what I know. They did it today, so I don’t think they’re going to change it. I’m comfortable with both (my left or right hand in the dirt). (When) you judge it, it’s probably a tenth faster on the left side than
right side.”
It seems the Jets plan to test the player’s ability during the rookie camp. Coples also went on to say that he has already analysed the Jets defensive playbook before the start of camp.
The Jets picked up the defensive end at number 16 overall in the drafts.
Coples had a brilliant 2010-11 season at college and was at one time was mentioned in the same breath as number one pick and quarterback, Andrew Luck.
However, a poorer return in his senior year saw Coples’ stock stumble, but now the defensive end is confident of returning the Jets faith in his abilities and he is already targeting winning a Super Bowl with the franchise.
“[I want to show] that I can compete at the highest level and that I can compete on the national stage and that I can help the NY Jets get to a Super Bowl.”
Coples also lavished praise on his new head coach, Rex Ryan and said.
“I’m excited about him coaching me and helping me become great,”
It will be interesting to see how the youngster fares in his first season as a professional National Football League (NFL) player.
Coples will be hoping that wherever the Jets play him in 2012-13 he can perform well and cement his spot in the defensive line, while helping the franchise return back to the playoffs.
