New York Jets G Matt Slauson shares plans on how franchise will use Tim Tebow - NFL News
New York Jets guard, Matt Slauson on Monday shed some light over what the Jets plan to do with their two quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez in the new season.
Tebow’s arrival at the Jets had raised questions over a developing quarterback controversy but head coach, Rex Ryan and general manager, Mike Tannenbaum have stated in multiple interviews that Tebow would remain backup for Sanchez and will be used as part
of a wildcat offence.
Slauson too followed a similar line in his talk with the press and said that the Jets will have two offences but Mark Sanchez will remain the top quarterback entering into the new season.
"It’s like we’re going to be two separate teams, but as far as I know, Mark is still going to be our guy,"
Offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano will work to take advantage of Tebow’s unconventional style of play in the wildcat offence and the young quarterback will likely work as a Plan B for the Jets during games.
Slauson also said that the Jets will go a little more old-school with the offence this year and play the offence according to Mark Sanchez’s strengths.
"You guys will be really surprised by what Mark’s going to do this year. The way we’re going to be running things plays right into Mark's strengths, running the ball.
Adding further he said the running game will take much more priority this year.
“It’ll be very similar to what we did in Rex (Ryan's) first two years, very much a style like that -- heavy run, heavy play action and whipping out a deep ball every now and again. That's all the stuff Mark does really well."
The Jets ended last season with an 8-8 record and missed out on the playoffs after locker room squabbles and a heated feud took place between Sanchez and wide receiver, Santonio Holmes with the franchise going on to lose its last three games of the season.
Fans will have to wait till the training camp to get a better idea of how the New York Jets plan to use their two very talented quarterbacks.
