New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum praises 'unique' QB Tim Tebow - NFL News
The Tim Tebow love-in continues with no end in sight as New York Jets players, coaches and now even the general manager cannot help but talk about the backup quarterback who came to the Jets after a trade with the Denver Broncos.
On Tuesday it was the Jets quarterbacks coach, Matt Cavanaugh who lavished praise on the young and hugely popular quarterback followed closely the next day by Jets cornerback, Darrelle Revis who called Tebow a born leader.
This time Jets general manager, Mike Tannenbaum, too told media just how happy he is at having Tebow in the team’s roster.
Speaking to ProFootball Talk Live (PFT) Tannenbaum said that the former Broncos quarterback’s arrival has diversified the Jets playbook and he brings a unique skill set to the team.
"We had a good idea of what we were getting ourselves into, Tim is a pretty unique person with a very unique following,"
Adding further he said.
When we made the decision from the football aspect ... we felt like by far this was the best opportunity for us to try to get back to some of the diversity we want to do. We just thought it was a great opportunity ... We can manage the distractions."
Tannenbaum will have to manage the distractions.
The Jets had no shortage of drama even before Tebow’s arrival. However, with the quarterback in the roster those distractions will go up ten-fold as he brings with him his own set of vociferous supporters.
Last season, the Jets completely disintegrated as locker room squabbles between players were revealed to the public.
The Jets ended up with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs.
Tebow was brought in as a backup by the Jets with Mark Sanchez remaining the starter, after a trade with the Denver Broncos who got a fourth and sixth round draft pick in return.
Coach Rex Ryan has specified that Tebow may take as much as 20 snaps per game and will run the Jets wildcat offence to complement, Sanchez’s much more orthodox play style.
It will be interesting to see how the Jets line-up in 2012-13 but it remains beyond doubt that drama will follow the Gang Green throughout the season as the team once again looks forward to make a strong bid for the playoffs.
