New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum says QB Tim Tebow's arrival will have little impact on draft strategy
Trading for quarterback, Tim Tebow has given the New York Jets a versatile player whose athleticism makes him ready to fulfil a variety of roles.
However, the Jets consider him to be their backup quarterback and general manager, Mike Tannenbaum once again reiterated to the media that Tebow will be used as a quarterback and his presence on the roster will not have too much of an impact on the Jets
draft plans.
The general manager speaking at a press conference said.
"He's our backup quarterback, so that's how we're listing him, and that's how we're going to carry him on our roster,"
Adding further he said.
"That could be more of a, I'd say, like a subtle tiebreaker, knowing that he has unique skill sets and athleticism. But in terms of how we are looking at our strategy, he's clearly at quarterback for us, and that's how we're listing him."
The Jets brought Tebow in a trade with the Denver Broncos and the move was seen by many as the start of a new quarterback controversy.
The franchise though has repeatedly made it clear that Mark Sanchez remains the starter and Tebow will help the team as part of a wildcat offence which will take advantage of his unconventional style and athleticism.
New York Jets guard, Matt Slauson had earlier stated that the franchise has two offences, one which would be run by Sanchez and the other will work with Tebow.
That notion though was rejected in the press conference by Joey Clinkscales, vice president of college scouting who said.
"From an offensive standpoint, it's important that we're lining up in one offense, we have one Jets offense.”
It remains to be seen what role Tebow will play at the Jets as he has been touted to fulfil a variety of roles including running back, full back and a H-back.
The Jets have the 16th overall pick in the first round of the drafts though general manager, Mike Tannenbaum has not counted out trading up the pick.
Tebow led the Broncos to the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title as a starter. Now he must prove himself once again as backup to Mark Sanchez.
