New York Jets’ Jim Leonhard out for the remainder of the season – NFL News
The New York Jets have confirmed that Jim Leonhard has suffered a season ending injury and will be out for the remainder of the season. The Jets safety has sustained a torn patellar tendon in his right knee that will keep him off
the field for a long time.
Leonhard was injured during last Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs which his team managed to win 37-10. The injury occurred in the second quarter of the game as he made an interception following which he was tackled
by Steve Breaston of the Chiefs. He had to be carted off the field.
Jets Coach Rex Ryan who confirmed that Leonhard will be missing action had been hopeful earlier that the injury would not turn out to be a worst one. However following an MRI scan on Monday, all hopes faded. Reports had already
been circulating that Leonhard will be out for the remainder of the season.
Ryan said that Leonhard was one of the guys who “elevated” other members of the team and will be missed by everyone. He termed the loss a huge blow to the team but said the team will steer out of the problem. The coach also pointed
out that everyone in the team respected Leonhard.
"You feel absolutely terrible for him, knowing how he overcame that last injury and what that meant. This team means everything to Jim and his leadership is obviously going to be missed, without question” Ryan said.
Ryan also termed the injury a setback, saying it was not the “end” of Leonhard.
Leonhard however seemed not so dismayed by the injury. He sounded encouraging to his fans on twitter.
"I want to thank everyone for the support. We've been here before and came back stronger than ever. Things happen for a reason, I'll find It." he wrote on the internet.
It is not the first time that Leonhard has fallen prey to a season ending injury. Last year, he had to miss the season after he broke his right leg during practice after having collided with his own team mate Patrick Turner.
