New York Jets LB Bart Scott wants team to prove doubters wrong - NFL News
It seems that going to back-to-back American Football Conference (AFC) Championship games had given the New York Jets players a sense of entitlement which burst in their faces as the team ended up 8-8 in the 2011 regular season and missed the playoffs.
This is according to New York Jets linebacker, Bart Scott, who in an interview with the
Star-Ledger was asked the difference between this season’s team and last year’s.
Scott replied that the team won’t have a sense of entitlement this year and they will be hungry to get back into the playoffs and prove all their critics and doubters wrong.
He said:
"Not a sense of entitlement. Understanding how hard it is in this game, and how blessed we were to be where we were.”
Adding further he said:
"And how hungry we are to get back there, and be able to prove the doubters wrong. They have an opinion of us, and sometimes perception is reality. But it doesn't make the perception the truth."
Before last year’s fall from grace for the franchise, the Jets were the toast of New York and led by a mean defence reached the AFC Championship game twice in two seasons.
It seems Scott believes that after the success of the 2009 and 2010 seasons the Jets became complacent and felt they belonged in the playoffs no matter what.
That however, is not the way things played out for the franchise.
The Jets lost their last three games amid complete chaos in the locker room with players openly feuding with each other.
Scott is not going on holiday like the rest of his teammates before training camp and will we working on his game to get ready for the upcoming season.
“This is training time for me. I don’t do anything. I’ve taken my vacations already. It’s grind. This is where I catch everybody; this is where I make my big leap, is now. When everybody else maybe takes two weeks off, I’ll go right to it.”
This year, the franchise is targeting a return to the playoffs and is motivated to put the heartbreak of last season behind them.
