New York Jets’ LaDainian Tomlinson hits out at Coach, Says Sanchez "pampered" – NFL News Update
The New York Jets, running back, LaDainian Tomlinson took to the Showtime’s “Inside The NFL” to hit out on the coach, Rex Ryan, and general manager, Mike Tannenbaum, holding them responsible for the feud that prevailed in the locker room this season.
"They created this. This is the type of football team that they wanted.” he said.
Tomlinson disclosed that the rift between Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes had been going on since week three or four, terming it to be a serious one.
"I've been around some locker rooms and quarterback-receiver situations and what-not, but it was as bad as I've been around," Tomlinson said.
The feud between the two had been reported in the media towards the end of the season.
Tomlinson earlier on had confirmed the tense environment in the locker room, saying there was a rift between Sanchez and Holmes and something had happened between the two but now pointed out that the problem was much larger.
Tomlinson has suggested that that there would always be tension when there are “53 strong personalities” out there in the room and spoke of the need to show respect to each other in order to get along.
Tensions kept mounting in the Jets' locker room with the standoff between Sanchez and Holmes becoming public, and Holmes being benched for arguing with teammates in the season’s final game.
Also backup quarterback, Greg McElroy said there were “selfish” people out there in the locker room that had a “corrupt mindset”.
That led Ryan to say that the situation had not been handled properly but said that he would set things straight, noting that some of the problems of the team were due to the fact that the team was not close together as a group as it had been in the past.
“I need to be in the locker room. I need to be around more, be involved more in the day-to-day, like right there in the meeting rooms and everything else.'' Ryan said.
Though early on, Tomlinson had negated reports that Sanchez was lazy, yet he said the quarterback was a bit “pampered” as he had no competition around.
Tomlinson had spoken of the need to bringing in a back up in order to boost Sanchez’s performance.
“He has no real threat to say this guy may take my job,” Tomlinson had said of Sanchez.
It appears as if the running back who has the option of retirement on cards no longer plans to stay with Jets.
He had signed a two-year agreement with the Jets which is now over.
Tomlinson had expressed his desire to be in a winning team and the San Diego Chargers, with whom he has spent nine seasons earlier on in his career, could be possibly one team that he may opt to join
In his career Tomlinson has rushed for 13,684 yards, while in this season, he has had 280 yards of rushing.
Tomlinson has been selected to the Pro Bowls five times, and has also been the recipient of the NFL MVP (Most Valuable Player) award.
