New York Jets’ Mark Sanchez accepts blame, says ok with Coach Rex Ryan – NFL News
Officially and publicly, there are no issues between New York Jets’ Coach Rex Ryan and quarterback Mark Sanchez. However, Sanchez has come forward accepting his share of mistake. The quarterback sounded as if things were okay between
him and the coach.
Initially it seemed that he may react to criticism by Rex Ryan. Ryan had been pretty hard on the quarterback during the Jets 16-37 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday night. The coach had been furious with Sanchez for a
clumsy timeout in the first half which allowed Tom Brady the opportunity to launch a touchdown drive. Ryan had called it the biggest mistake of the game.
However, as it turned out both the player and coach appeared to be pretty generous and understanding towards each other. Ryan moved a step back on Monday from his comments, saying poor communications between the coaches was responsible
for the scenario and accepted his mistake. Ryan’s tone and mood were completely different from those on Sunday when he was so angry that Sanchez could not muster the courage to face him. But now with a completely changed tone, Ryan said that Sanchez was the
right guy and he was not unhappy with him. Ryan called Sanchez a winner, saying he is “terrific”.
Sanchez was quick to absorb criticism and accepted his part of the mistake. He commented on the incident, saying, "It's a stupid play. I've got to know the situation, whether I heard something in the headset or not. You're not
playing against a rookie quarterback, you're playing against Tom Brady, so even 30 extra seconds or whatever it was on the clock is inexcusable, so that's on me."
Sanchez dispelled perception of any sort of disagreement or issue between him and the coach. He called Ryan the best coach he could think of, saying both were having a good time working together. He was even protective of the coach.
"It shouldn't have happened, even if he takes the blame for it, then he's protecting me, whatever, but I know that," Sanchez said. "If something like that's going to get under my skin, then I'm in the wrong line of work. It's on
the quarterback. I've got to be better than that."
