New York Jets’ Mark Sanchez facing increasing opposition from teammates – NFL News Update
The New York Jets’ fans and players are questioning Mark Sanchez’s capabilities and some are even demanding that the quarterback be replaced with Peyton Manning.
NYDailyNews reported the news which stated that serious doubts by players now exist over Sanchez’s ability to lead the team and have even called for him to be replaced with Peyton Manning.
The NYDailyNews even quoted one of the Jets’ players in this regard.
“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” said one player. “He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched.”
These loads of criticism are not new for the quarterback who has exhibited a drastic decline in his performance this season that too all during the final weeks.
Sanchez has shown a lot of inconsistency in the recent games.
Jets’ players have seen Sanchez take in a lousy time out against the Patriots that resulted in a touchdown by Tom Brady and oversaw their team’s loss, followed by three turnovers against the New York Giants, to three interceptions against the Miami Dolphins
in the season’s finale.
All these mistakes had resulted in Jets throwing away the game each time and seeing their chances of playoffs slowly being eliminated.
No doubt, Sanchez’s declining performance was to be blamed for all that.
So, now that the players are reacting to their quarterback, it does not come out as a surprise anymore.
Sanchez himself is responsible for a fall in standings with his teammates, which gives them a strong reason to demand a replacement player to take charge.
Though Sanchez scored his career’s best 26 touchdowns, yet he was guilty of having committed 26 turnovers this season.
He currently ranks as the second for both the most number of interceptions and the most number of turnovers in the National Football League (NFL).
Sanchez will certainly have a hard time finding ground to defend himself even though he did receive the vote of confidence from coach, Rex Ryan, who said that he had a lot of confidence in his player but that was before Jets' chances of playoffs ended.
Now things are beginning to look even bleaker.
It may turn out that the wave of anger that exists among the players and fans may result in an embarrassing replacement for the quarterback.
Just recently one more man who was coming under a lot of fire, the offensive coordinator of Jets, Brian Schottenheimer, left the team, adding to the delight of fans.
Now, with Schottenheimer gone, all their attention will now turn towards Sanchez, as calls for him to be replaced with Manning will continue to increase.
Ryan seems bent on continuing with Sanchez as the quarterback, which can be seen in his reply, when asked if he would prefer Peyton Manning if he was to be available.
"I recognize Peyton Manning is an unbelievable quarterback. But do I think it's even a consideration for us? No, I don't,” Ryan said.
However, with the rising unpopularity, it is quite doubtful that Ryan would be able to keep the opposition to Sanchez away.
