New York Jets QB Tim Tebow addresses 15,000 fans at Easter congregation - NFL News
New York Jets quarterback, Tim Tebow, draws massive number of followers wherever he goes and it was no different on Easter Sunday when the 24-year-old addressed a gathering of the faithful at the Celebration Church in Austin, Texas.
A massive crowd of 15,000 some of whom had come from miles away gathered at the Church to hear the quarterback speak about his faith and football with many adorning the new, New York Jets number 15 jerseys.
Speaking at the congregation the quarterback said.
"It's OK to be outspoken about your faith. It's being talked about. That's exciting."
Tebow also talked about the phenomenon known as “Tebowing” that took America by storm and copied by people across sports.
"I really don't think I was the first athlete to get on a knee and pray and it's funny because I've actually had the same routine for the last seven years and just this year they started calling it Tebowing, I do think it's pretty cool because at least prayer
is being talked about. My biggest prayer is for a high school kid to get on a knee and pray and it's not something that's unique or different."
He also went on to say that America was founded on Christianity and wants the culture to reflect that.
Tebow is known for his strong Christian beliefs and has become one of the most talked about players in the league after his last minute comeback victories in 2011-12 and his signature praying style captured the imagination of the public.
The quarterback completely turned around the Denver Broncos season from 1-4 as he led them to an unlikely American Football Conference (AFC) West division title and into the playoff wildcard rounds.
Criticised throughout the season by analysts for his poor throws and unconventional game play, the quarterback was never fazed by the criticism and redeemed himself in the playoffs as he led the Broncos to the divisional rounds with a massive upset of the
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tebow won the game in overtime as he connected with Demaryius Thomas for an 80-yard touchdown on the first play to lead Denver to a 29-23 win.
The quarterback will now look to deliver similar performances for his new team the New York Jets after being traded by Denver who brought in free agent Peyton Manning.
