New York Jets QB Tim Tebow to address Easter Sunday congregation - NFL News
Crowds are expected to throng an Easter Day service in Georgetown’s central church on Sunday, April 8, 2012 as quarterback Tim Tebow will be there to deliver a 20-minute long address.
Tebow, known as the National Football League (NFL) quarterback with the ability to snatch victory in games from the jaws of defeat, is also a practicing Christian and his arrival at the church will likely jump the number of people who will come for Easter
Sunday services.
The 24-year-old, born to Baptist missionaries in Philippines, is vocal about his Christian beliefs and many of his fans see him as a great role model.
The quarterback is known for kneeling and praying during NFL games and his signature praying style had captured the imagination of fans across America giving rise to one of the biggest fads in sports known as “Tebowing”.
Pastor Joe Champion at the Celebration Church believes that Tebow’s arrival at the service could increase the crowd capacity to 30,000 people.
Speaking on a radio show in Texas, the Pastor said about the event.
“Obviously it's our Super Bowl. Easter is the resurrection of Christ, which we celebrate in our faith. We feel like it's going to be a testimony to the community. We want it to be a family event."
However, he went on to add that Easter and God will be central to the event and it will not be a Tim Tebow show.
“There will be the sacredness of Easter. It's not a Tim Tebow show. It's not about a celebrity. There's really only one celebrity that we are going to honor and highlight,”
Tebow’s popularity exploded in America after he first took over the role of starting quarterback at the Denver Broncos after replacing Kyle Orton.
The youngster turned around Denver’s entire season with some heart-stopping comebacks as he led the Broncos to the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title and into the playoff wildcard round.
His biggest moment of the season came when he connected with Demaryius Thomas with an 80-yard touchdown pass in overtime of the playoff game against Pittsburgh Steelers to win the game 29-23.
Tebow was released by the Broncos after they signed free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning and the 24-year-old is now looking to help his new team the New York Jets in the 2012-13 season.
