New York Jets RB Shonn Greene looking forward to taking more carries in 2012-13 - NFL News
The New York Jets are in the midst of Organised Team Activities (OTAs) and the team’s offence for the upcoming 2012-13 season is taking shape slowly.
New offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano, is installing a new “ground-and-pound” offence for the team and running back, Shonn Greene believes that his carries will increase further in the next season.
Speaking to the New York Times after taking part in the team’s OTAs, Greene said that he was at first apprehensive over the arrival of quarterback, Tim Tebow and expected that he would get fewer carries than last season this time around due to Tebow’s
penchant to run the ball himself.
However, after taking part in practice he now sees that there will be enough plays for everyone in the new offence which will once again make the running game the most important aspect of the offence.
Greene said.
"I did, I did but then again, you can't dwell on stuff like that. There's going to be plenty of carries to go around."
Even though the Jets favoured passing much more last season, Greene performed brilliantly as he rushed for 1,054 yards from 253 attempts to cap a wonderful individual season.
He also scored six touchdowns last year.
However, his efforts were not enough. The Jets ended up with a poor 8-8 record and missed out on the playoffs after the team completely imploded in the crucial final weeks of the season.
Infighting and a lack of team spirit did further harm to the Jets campaign.
This year though, the franchise has returned to normalcy with players burying the hatchet and coming together to once again try to make a big push for the playoffs.
It still remains to be seen what the complete Jets offence will look like since it boasts both a good passer in quarterback, Mark Sanchez and a different option in Tim Tebow.
Greene added further.
"We're going to run that to death until someone stops us, and I think that's the type of back I am,"
Hopefully the Jets will deliver much better this year than last season. The OTAs show that the Jets are looking good ahead of the season.
