New York Jets’ Shonn Greene out with a rib injury – NFL News
In yet one another blow to the New York Jets, running back Shonn Greene has sustained a rib injury.
Greene injured himself in the first quarter of Thursday’s game against the Denver Broncos while catching a pass from Mark Sanchez. Greene fell down as he took the 4-yard pass and his facial features showed signs of pain. TV cameras
showed Greene rolling on the ground in pain. In just a minute he managed to walk on his own to the locker room where on a closer examination it was determined that he had suffered from a rib injury.
Greene missed the remainder of the game and was replaced by running back Joe McKnight. Though McKnight is a special team player, tonight he had to start the offense. The injury to Greene occurred in the closing minutes of the first
quarter with about just three minutes remaining. Greene had just managed 3 carries for a distance of 10 yards before getting hurt.
This is a major blow for the Jets who have already lost LaDainian Tomlinson in week 11. Tomlinson had injured his knee during his team’s loss to the New England Patriots last weekend and is expected to be off the field for the
entire week. Tomlinson had hurt his left medial collateral ligament during the game. He missed the game against the Broncos due to his injury. Rookie Bilal Powell replaced Tomlinson and made his debut in NFL.
Also suffering from an injury is safety Brodney Pool. Pool sustained a sprained left knee and could not make it to the team for Thursday’s game.
This is not the first time that Greene has sustained an injury to his ribs. Back in 2009, during the AFC Championship, Greene suffered from a ribs injury while playing against the Indianapolis Colts and had to miss the remainder
of the game.
Greene joined the Jets in 2009 being selected in the third round of the NFL draft. He had his name included in the top ten offensive players of 2008.
Absence of Greene had further undermined Broncos’ capability in their Thursday’s game who are trying to recover from injury losses.
