New York Jets’ Tim Tebow stands out in the goal-line drills – NFL News
New York Jets’ plans for their versatile backup quarterback Tim Tebow have finally surfaced.
Tebow looked superb in the sixth practice session of Jets’ training camp on Thursday, August 02, 2012.
Jets practise in a variety of goal-line sequence. Tebow only played in the conventional offence and the punt team during the first three days of practice.
While both teams were lining up on the field, head coach Rex Ryan came up and announced that Tebow was “live”. Tebow gave a little smile after the call.
Ryan does not generally put a player live in the practice session. After that, Tebow led the second-team offence and got two touchdowns and gave a throw for another.
Ryan was very impressed with the performance of Tebow and said that the quarterback had his best day in the camp. Ryan said:
"We saw a little bit of what he can do, what he brings to the table. When we start doing more Wildcat things, we'll all be excited Tim is here. I think it shows that number one, he's all in.”
When asked about whether Sanchez will come off near the goal-line during games, Ryan said:
“We're going to do whatever we can to score, if that means putting Tim in or if it means leaving Mark in."
The Jets had a pretty good record in the goal-line, converting 80% of their chances into touchdowns.
In the first play, Tebow remained untouched and scored a touchdown. After that, he threw to tight end Josh Baker for another touchdown. In the last play, Tebow had a wild-cat run and scored.
Tebow himself was very satisfied with his output on the field. He said:
"If that's something they want me to do, I'd be more than happy to do it and try to do it to the best of my ability -- and, hopefully, do a pretty good job at it.”
When Tebow scored the first touchdown, crowd had a huge roar to establish the fact that Tebowmania had arrived at the Jets’ training camp with a bang.
Tebow looked very efficient in the goal-line sequence; however, it will be interesting to see how or if this affects Sanchez.
