New York Jets’ Tony Sparano looks forward to working with Mark Sanchez – NFL News Update
The new offense coordinator of the New York Jets, Tony Sparano is looking forward to working with quarterback, Mark Sanchez and helping him get back on the track.
Sparano admitted that helping to prepare Sanchez had always been a difficult task but said that he felt the player had a lot of good qualities.
“We’ll be able to help Mark in a lot of ways,” Sparano said. “Once he gets in here, we’ll through some of the basics and fundamentals at the position and go from there.”
Sparano is quite well known for helping quarterbacks develop. In the past he helped two quarterbacks, Tony Romo in Dallas and Chad Henne in Miami improve their performances.
Sanchez has been coming under a lot of fire lately for his shortcomings in recent weeks. The criticism increased after the Jets failed to reach the playoffs. Many angry fans criticized Sanchez in the newspapers and on the internet.
A newspaper reported anonymous players as saying that they wanted Sanchez replaced with Peyton Manning and quoted one player as calling Sanchez as “lazy” and content”.
After that the coach Rex Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and owner Woody Johnson had come forward to defend the quarterback saying they had confidence in him.
Ryan said if not the whole team but the majority of the team had confidence in Sanchez.
Johnson spoke of how hard working Sanchez was, pointing out that he was the first to enter and last to leave the building.
Tannenbaum on the other hand maintained that Sparano had been hired to help Sanchez out of his problems.
Sparano has already impressed the coach and general manager and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to help Sanchez overcome his problems.
Sparano was the former head coach of Miami Dolphins and was fired after his team failed to reach the playoffs.
Sparano was hired by the Jets within 12 hours after offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer left.
Schottenheimer had come under a lot of fire as he failed to help the Jets offense improve. Some fans had even called for Schottenheimer to be fired. It could be possible that Schottenheimer left owing to the massive criticism surrounding him.
With the Jets, Sparano faces the challenge of training Sanchez and improve an offense that ranks 25th in National Football League (NFL).
Ryan was optimistic that Sparano would help root out the problems.
“We hired Tony because of what he brings to the table,” Ryan said. “Tony is a guy I have extreme confidence in. I have complete confidence in Tony.”
Sparano said that he had been around training a lot of “great” quarterbacks and he would be able to help Sanchez improve and overcome his problems in many ways.
