New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes lavishes praise on OC Tony Sparano - NFL News
New York Jets this offseason brought in new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano to take over from former coordinator Brian Schottenheimer who was released by the franchise in January.
Sparano had previously been the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for the past four years and brings great experience to the team.
This year Sparano will be calling the plays at offence while also being asked to develop plays for two quarterbacks in starter Mark Sanchez and backup Tim Tebow.
With training camp approaching closer it will be interesting to see how the team will line-up.
Wide receiver, Santonio Holmes spoke to the NFL Network recently and said that he was hugely impressed with the way the new offensive coordinator went about his duties and praised the ideas and experience Sparano brings to the offence.
He said:
"He wants to see everybody on the same page and he brings the head-coaching mentality to the offensive side of the ball, which is something very different."
Adding further he said:
"Unless you've experienced it and know what it's like to have a head coach as a coordinator, it's hard to explain."
Holmes went on to elaborate on the difference an experienced head coach brings as a coordinator to the side and said that Sparano’s arrival will make communication and play calling much easier than before.
He also said that everyone can feel the difference the arrival of Sparano has had on the team.
"It makes things a lot easier. It makes communication easier. Makes the play-calling easier. Players see things differently, because a head coach has to deal with offense, defense, special teams. But when you only have one guy who deals with a group of guys,
now you see the difference in how they react to situations."
It remains to be seen if the impact of the new offensive coordinator will result in wins for the Jets in 2012.
Last year the team ended up with a poor 8-8 record amid dressing room squabbles in which Holmes played a big part.
This year though the team has a more close knit feel to it and will be looking to take another shot at the playoffs.
