New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes walks out of final OTA, complains he is being trained too hard
It did not take long for drama to return back to the New York Jets after a surprisingly long period since the start of the offseason.
Last year the Jets were all about drama and indiscipline with players publicly feuding with each other and going to the media to comment on the their teammates.
Wide receiver, Santonio Holmes was a big part of the circus that engulfed the Jets last season after his feud with quarterback, Mark Sanchez, became public knowledge.
Holmes also held out of the franchise’s last game of the season against the Miami Dolphins.
It was the wide receiver, once again who nabbed the headlines after Thursday’s organised team activities (OTAs).
Holmes pulled himself out of practice in the middle of the session and tossed his helmet aside looking visibly frustrated.
Luckily reporters caught up with the emotional wide receiver after practice and Holmes explained his fit by saying that he was worked too hard by the coaches during the session and he could not maintain the same intensity after just returning from a goodwill
visit for American soldiers in Germany.
According to ESPN he said.
"I was talking to the coach, letting him understand it was too many reps today," Holmes said. "I've been gone for a while, so I can't be at full tempo like the rest of the guys and where they want us to be at."
This was the last OTA session for the Jets who start their mandatory mini-camp from next week.
The wide receiver also insisted that he had not left the field due to injury and was just tired after his four-day trip.
Coach Rex Ryan also mentioned the episode in his talk with the reporters and said that he had spoken to both Holmes and wide receivers coach, Sanjay Lal.
"If he thinks he'd be stretching it to give five or 10 extra reps, you have to be smart about it," Ryan said, adding, "If a guy thinks he's tight ... you don't want a guy pulling (a muscle). He knows his body better than anybody."
The team after last season’s problems is trying to show that they are rebuilding team chemistry but episodes like this put doubts on their public comments.
