New York Jets WR Stephen Hill signs first NFL deal worth $ 5m - NFL News
New York Jets did not mess around when they made their move to bring wide receiver, Stephen Hill to the franchise with the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the drafts.
The Jets moved up four spots after a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, to get the Georgia Tech prospect and one of the most talented playmakers available in the drafts.
Just a few days after picking the wide receiver, the franchise has now offered Hill a contract which is worth approximately $ 5million.
The news was revealed by a source close to the talks according to the Star-Ledger which first reported the contract details on Thursday.
The contract gives the receiver $ 2.9 million in guaranteed salary for the first two seasons.
Hill ended his last season for Georgia Tech with 28 receptions for a total of 820-yards and scored five touchdowns.
His arrival at the franchise will give the Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez another option down the field and will take pressure off from current starting wide receiver, Santonio Holmes.
New Jets offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano was highly impressed by the young wide receiver and praised him in an earlier interview.
"The biggest thing is going to be the amount of coverages that he sees, and those type of things, and how fast he can pick up our verbiage here because that will be different for him.,"
Adding further he said.
"But the good news is we spent a good amount of time with this player and doing our homework in the draft process. ... We had a good amount of time to spend with him, so we feel really comfortable there."
The Jets ended last season with an 8-8 record and lost their last three games as locker room harmony completely dissolved.
Sanchez and Holmes publically feuded with each other and the wide receiver refused to take to the field in the final game of the season.
Both have now made up with each other in the offseason and are preparing for the new 2012-13 season as they target a return back to the playoffs.
Hill is expected to be a great addition to the franchise’s offence and hopefully he can live up to the hype.
