New York Jets coach Rex Ryan once again reiterates that QB Tim Tebow is backup - NFL News
The arrival of quarterback, Tim Tebow at the New York Jets was touted by many analysts as the beginning of the end for starting quarterback, Mark Sanchez.
However, the franchise continues to try and quell rumours of a growing quarterback controversy by insisting that Tebow is backup for Sanchez and will only be used as a wildcat quarterback.
Tebow arrived at the Jets training facility on Monday to take part in the voluntary work out sessions.
Coach Rex Ryan speaking with the media once again reiterated that Sanchez remains his starter for the new season and Tebow will help out the team when needed.
"Of course, Mark's the starter. There's no question about it. That's how we look at it, but we know that Tim can help us, too. There's no doubt. ... Mark is our starting quarterback.”
Adding further he said.
“We understand Tim is a backup quarterback, but we also recognize the fact that this guy's an excellent football player and we're going to use his abilities."
No one can blame Sanchez if he feels threatened by the 24-year-old quarterback.
At the Denver Broncos Tebow came in as backup for starter Kyle Orton but it took just a few games for fans to start calling for the 24-year-old.
Tebow took over the starting role for Denver with the franchise at 1-4 and led the Broncos to victory after victory in some of the most shocking comebacks of the season.
The young quarterback’s success in delivering the wins put an end to Kyle Orton’s stint at the Broncos and he was waived off.
Denver ended with an 8-8 record and won the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title with Tebow at the helm and also reached the playoffs.
The successful year has made Tebow into one of the most well known stars in the NFL and his popularity continues to increase with each passing day.
"We're extremely happy to have both of them." Ryan said.
Tebow according to the Jets will be used by offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano as part of his wildcat offence and Sanchez will remain the starter.
However, it will take just a couple of bad performances from Sanchez to get the fans calling for Tebow.
Good Luck! Mark.
