New York Jets coach Rex Ryan proud that his son plays football - NFL News
Concern over concussions and the impact on the future health of players who repeatedly take head injuries have grown steadily in the National Football League (NFL).
The issue of player safety has become a big concern for the sport with the filing of hundreds of lawsuits by former players and their families over the lack of awareness spread by the league over concussions.
The suicide by former San Diego Chargers linebacker, Junior Seau has also put the spotlight on the game with many parents afraid of letting their children play the game.
Former NFL quarterback, Kurt Warner in a recent interview said that he was not comfortable with his children playing the game and he would prefer it if they don’t because of the dangers of head injuries.
However, not all parents are prohibiting their children from playing the game they love and one of them is New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan.
Ryan speaking in an interview with the New York Daily News after watching the new Jets rookie’s practice at their camp, said that he is proud that his son is playing the game and wants him to continue to follow his dreams of playing in the NFL.
"I’m proud that my kid plays,”
Adding further he said.
“I truly believe everybody’s working to try to get this thing [concussions] minimized. We’ve got to protect our players. ... We try to do that with the helmets, with the way the trainers and everything else. But will I still have my son playing? Absolutely.”
Ryan’s son Seth plays wide receiver and cornerback for his high school and the Jets head coach is proud that his son plays the game.
“I love the sport. This game has been incredible to me and my family, amazing. We’ve made a great living doing what we love to do and that’s being around the sport.”
The concerns over player safety and concussions will continue and commissioner, Roger Goodell has made it his strongest priority as can be seen from the severe punishments he handed down to the New Orleans Saints players and management involved in the bounty
scandal.
