New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says Jets on verge of building "special team" - NFL News
Last season blew right up in the face of New York Jets coach, Rex Ryan who had boasted earlier in the season that the Jets were going to win a Super Bowl ring.
Instead of that the Jets became a circus and a running joke across the National Football League (NFL) as the team ended up 8-8 and missed out entirely on the playoffs due to locker room squabbles and a heated feud between wide receiver, Santonio Holmes and
quarterback, Mark Sanchez.
The offseason could not come quick enough for the Jets who had to watch their city rivals New York Giants lift the Super Bowl championship.
In 2012 though the franchise is looking to change things around and with Sanchez and Holmes getting back on speaking terms while training together, coach Rex Ryan has found his swagger once again.
Speaking to the media after the first day of team workouts in which new arrival, Tim Tebow also took part, he said.
"I know we're going to build a great (team). I don't care what you call it -- a brotherhood, a tribe, whatever -- but we want to be special. That starts right now with the off-season program."
Centre, Nick Mangold was also present at the press conference and reiterated that this is 2012 Jets and the last season is completely behind them.
"Right now, we're looking uphill. We're looking at the future, which we perceive as bright. There's no reason to dredge up things that happened in the past."
The New York Jets were at the height of dysfunction last season as the team descended into chaos.
At first it was anonymous teammates publicly stating to the media that quarterback, Mark Sanchez was lazy and coddled by the management.
Next it was problems between Sanchez and Holmes that led the wide receiver to sit out the final game of the season against Miami Dolphins and the Jets lost their third game in a row to end up at 8-8 and miss out on the playoffs.
Both players though have now put behind their past problems and had trained together in Florida.
The 2012-13 season does seem bright for the Jets but it does not take long for the egos in this franchise to once again raise its ugly head.
