New York Jets coach Rex Ryan wants team to put last season behind them - NFL News
The New York Jets locker room was at the height of dysfunction last season as conflicts between players completely crushed any team loyalty and the franchise ended up missing out on the playoffs.
No wonder that the team wants to forget all about their problems from last season and start anew in the new 2012-13 season.
According to star cornerback, Darrelle Revis that was the message extolled by coach, Rex Ryan during the first team meeting of the offseason.
Revis according to the New York Daily News said that head coach, Rex Ryan told the players.
"Sweep 2011 under the rug. There was nothing to sugarcoat."
The Jets ended up with an 8-8 record after going on a three-game losing streak during the final half of the season.
Things were made worse as quarterback, Mark Sanchez famously feuded with his best weapon wide receiver, Santonio Holmes, with the receiver refusing to be on the same field as Sanchez.
Sanchez also faced criticism from a group of anonymous players who told media that the quarterback was lazy and mollycoddled by the management.
However, both Sanchez and Holmes have ended their feud in the offseason and both players have worked out with each other.
Revis added that.
“There was something going on (last season) and everybody knew it. I think that was the result of us having the season that we had. Previous seasons we stuck together no matter what the outcome was. There’s nothing wrong with that. We can put it back together
as a team."
The Jets have the complete offseason and training camp to rebuild the fractured relationships in the dressing room and bring a sense of unity back.
The franchise brought in quarterback, Tim Tebow with a trade with the Denver Broncos and even though many expected that the team has started another quarterback controversy in the roster, Tebow has received praise from Sanchez during the voluntary workouts.
New York Jets are looking to get back into the playoffs this season and if they can overcome their dressing room problems they are a tough team for any opponent to face.
Even though Revis wants the team to get back together the cornerback has still not confirmed whether he will hold out on a new contract during training camp.
There is still a lot of work to be done by the Jets.
