New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis gets cleared to play against Miami Dolphins – NFL News
Fans of New York Jets got the news they were hoping for on Thursday, September 20, 2012, as their All Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis got cleared for Week 3 tie against Miami Dolphins.
Revis himself announced the good news after working through a full practice session on Thursday. Revis said:
"I'm playing Sunday, this is a must-win for us. We need this win. The expectations are high for us to go down there and get a win Sunday."
Jets then confirmed the news on Friday as Revis was listed as probable for the game on Sunday.
Revis got the clearance on Thursday morning by the team doctors as well as an independent neuro-surgeon, as per the rules of the National Football League (NFL).
It was Revis’ first full practice since he got a mild concussion while playing in the Jets 48-28 season opener win against Buffalo Bills. He got in an accidental collision with his fellow teammate, linebacker Bart Scott.
Although Revis had started light practice last week, he was declared unfit for Week 2 game against Pittsburgh Steelers. Jets lost the game 27-10.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan did not confirm that Revis would be certain for Sunday game. He pointed that Revis’ presence will depend on his progress on Saturday.
Apart from that, Ryan was delighted to have his best man in the secondary back. Ryan said:
"I think you feel good when you have the best player on the field; that can't hurt you. They've got some great players over on Miami ... but there's only one Darrelle Revis. I know I feel great about it. It's hard not to smile. You feel great as a play caller."
It will be a great boost for Jets defence which looked miserable against Steelers. They particularly lacked the shutdown coverage capability, something at which Revis is an expert.
Revis is in his sixth season in the league. He was drafted by Jets in the first round (14th overall pick) in the 2007 draft. He got 41 tackles in the 2011 season.
