New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis gets knee injury against Miami Dolphins – NFL News
New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis had a brief return to the field as he got injured again during Week 3 game against Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 23, 2012.
It was Revis’ first game after getting a concussion during Jets 48-28 season opening win against Buffalo Bills. He was not cleared to play in Week 2 game against Pittsburgh Steelers due to the injury and now the player is again out, this time with a knee
injury.
Revis got the no-contact injury during the third quarter of the game as he tried to tackle Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas during which he was blocked by centre Mike Pouncey. He was unable to play in the rest of the game.
The cornerback went to the ground and looked to be in significant pain. He then walked off the field by himself where he was attended by the Jets medical staff.
Revis was then taken to the locker room. Jets then went on to win the game 23-20 in overtime.
Jets did not give any substantial briefing about Revis’ injury. Head Coach Rex Ryan talked about the incident in his postgame news conference. He said:
"No news yet. Clearly, with Darrelle. . . your best player, of course you're going to be concerned. I don't know anything about it right now. We'll find out with the MRI."
Revis declined to talk with media after the game. He looked in considerably better condition after the game as he talked with his fellow teammates in the locker room.
The cornerback does not have a previous history of knee injury, which is a serious blow to Jets as their defence looked miserable in absence of Revis in Week 2 game during which Steelers offence picked them apart in. Jets lost that game 27-10.
Revis has been regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the league today. He was phenomenal last season, getting 41 tackles. Giving his opinion about Revis’ importance, linebacker Calvin Pace said:
"It's huge. I wouldn't necessarily call it devastating. We've got enough guys who have played. In this day in the league, it's a next-man-up mentality. I hope it's nothing serious. If he can't play, it has to be Kyle (Wilson) or Ellis (Lankster) or whoever.
We have to keep moving because we have some opponents with serious weapons."
Revis was drafted by Jets as the 14th overall pick in the 2007 draft.
