New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis out of the 2012 season – NFL News
New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is diagnosed with a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his knee that has forced him out of the rest of the 2012 season.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan did not confirm the news on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. However he did indicate that Revis would not be able to get surgery on his knee before at least two to three weeks.
Revis has also not given any hopeful response as far his return is concerned. According to various media reports, he is going to get second opinion on his injury.
Jets tend to encourage their players to have an opinion from another independent specialist in case of serious injuries.
The cornerback injured his knee as he went into the end zone to stop a touchdown pass during the third quarter of Week 3 game against Miami Dolphins.
He tried to deflect a block and stop Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas from catching the ball. During that process he crumpled his leg and went to the ground.
Revis will be replaced by Jets former first-round pick cornerback Kyle Wilson, who will play at Revis’ position alongside cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Meanwhile, defensive back Ellis Lankster will play at nickelback, where Wilson used to play. Wilson seems confident to replace Revis. Wilson said:
"I just feel like I'm going to go out there and I'm going to continue to do my job. Go out there, make plays and have fun. Just play my game, that's all I can do."
Wilson also played at cornerback during Jets Week 2 game as Revis was injured.
Jets defence will have to work hard in order to get appreciable results in absence of Revis. Linebacker Aaron Maybin said:
"It's an onus on the whole defence. We know that we all have to step up, and on offense and special teams. It's going to be a collective effort because when you have a guy like that go down, it really does affect the whole team."
