New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis predicting return to elite form after recovery – NFL News
New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis spoke with the media for the first time since getting a knee injury on Monday, October 15, 2012, and has indicated that he will be able to get back his dominant form once he returns to the field.
Revis will go through a reconstructive surgery on his injured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on Tuesday, October 16.
The cornerback is optimistic that he will be fully fit before the start of the 2013 season. ESPN quoted him as saying:
"Once I get back to 100 percent, to me there's no question I (will) be back to where I was. I'm sure it might raise people's eyebrows with how I'm going to look when I come back. I'm OK with that. I wouldn't expect anything less. I just know I work hard
and I'm going to treat it like any other offseason."
Revis injured his knee during Jets’ Week 3 game against Miami Dolphins. Although Revis was diagnosed to have a torn ACL, Jets did not put him on the season-ending injured reserve until last Saturday, October 13. Talking about his injury, Revis said:
"It felt like somebody had a knife and stuck it through my knee. That's the feeling I got from trying to make the cut. It's crazy because I've made that cut a thousand million times.”
It is important for Revis to fully recover and give quality output next season in a way he did before getting injured.
It was expected before the injury that Revis would get a pricey long-term contract from the Jets in the 2013 offseason that could make him the most expensive defensive player in the league.
However, it will be difficult for Revis to get that kind of money if he does not give an elite level of performance. Revis is currently under a four-year, $46 million contract which will end in 2014.
Revis has been working out at the Jets’ rehabilitation facility to strengthen his knee before the surgery.
He has been talking with fellow players like running back Adrian Peterson of Minnesota Vikings and others who have successfully returned after getting the same injury.
