New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis reportedly has torn ACL – NFL News
New York Jets have got another bad news as their star cornerback Darrelle Revis was diagnosed to have a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on his left knee that was injured during Week 3 game against Miami Dolphins.
Revis went through MRI scan that revealed that there was a substantial damage to the cornerback’s injured knee.
The cornerback will have to go through a surgery to recover from the injury. However, it will take at least two to three weeks for Revis’ knee to get to the stage where it can sustain surgical procedure.
Revis received a no-contact injury in the second half of the game as he was tackling Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas. The player went to the ground and was in great pain.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan got the news just before his afternoon news conference. He looked grim with the situation of playing without his best defensive player. Ryan said:
"Obviously that's a significant injury, and it's something that we're going to have to overcome as a football team, we understand that. He's such a great player and a great teammate -- we're going to lose that presence. That's the horrible thing that came
out of the game."
The next few weeks are going to be very tough for Revis, who had just made a comeback on Sunday after recovering from concussion sustained during the season opener.
In absence of Revis, Jets will work with cornerbacks Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson. It will be difficult for both to fill the vacuum created by Revis’ absence, but their coach has great confidence in them. Ryan went on and said:
"Is it a major blow when you lose a great player like Darrelle Revis? Of course, absolutely it is, but this is a football team. We're fortunate because we've got the best in the league in Darrelle and we also have a No. 1 corner in Cromartie. I'm confident
in Kyle."
Jets defensive play will be significantly affected in Revis’ absence as he is among the league’s best cornerbacks.
