New York Jets cornerback Kyle Wilson under pressure of replacing Darrelle Revis – NFL News
It is not the easiest of task to replace the best cornerback in the league, but cornerback Kyle Wilson will take up this responsibility when New York Jets play their Week 4 game against San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, September 30, 2012.
Wilson knows how hard it is to match talent of cornerback Darrelle Revis. Therefore, he is trying to keep himself away from the public eye to reduce pressure of the situation.
After practice session on Wednesday, September 26, Wilson moved away from the locker room in order to keep himself away from media.
However, he did come up and talked with the reporters on Thursday, September 27. Wilson tried to give the stance that he was not worried about pressure of replacing Revis simply because he had done it before. Wilson said:
"It's not that much more than what I've been doing,"
Wilson played in Week 2 game in place of Revis, who had got injured in the Jets season opener against Buffalo Bills.
Many of Wilson’s fellow teammates believe that he is the right man for the job. Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine has come out and expressed his total confidence in Wilson. Pettine said:
"Kyle Wilson is going to give us his best and we're also going to put (him) in situations where he can succeed. We have a lot of confidence in him. He had a great offseason, he's off to a good start this year. But we're not going to ask him to be Darrelle
and put him out there on one side of the field all by himself without any help anywhere nearby.”
Wilson has been very impressive this season. He has taken 77 % of Jets’ defensive snaps and got more playing time than Revis in Week 3.
With Revis out for the season after injuring his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Wilson will get more chance to fulfil the expectation of being the first-round pick.
Jets drafted Wilson as the 29th overall pick in 2010. Last season he managed to get 35 tackles, and two interceptions.
