New York Jets elimination from playoffs moves coach closer to offense – Part 1
New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan now plans to focus more on offense after his team was eliminated from the playoffs this season.
Ryan is usually known to be a defensive minded coach but now he will be around the offense more. Changes in the team and surely in Ryan’s attitude and outlook had been expected after the team’s failure to reach the playoffs this season. This new development
comes as a surprise because a change in Ryan’s attitude was being expected more than anything else.
The season has ended for the New York Jets who had looked quite strong contenders of winning their division. The defeat in their season’s finale against the Miami Dolphins came as a big shock for them. However, even worst is the situation for their head
coach who had been quite consistent in with his tall claims and boasts.
The coach had initiated a completely unnecessary war of words by hitting out on the New York Giants. He started claiming the town saying it was his town. He dubbed the Giants as the less better side and claimed that the Jets were the better side and would
beat the Giants. Ryan’s claim did not end with just being better than the Giants. They went on and on from owing the city to becoming the best team in NFL. It could just turn out that he was trying to fuel up his players for a duel with the Giants and went
far too ahead in his claims even though he dared to stand for every word he said. Whatever the reason the claims were surely uncalled for.
Rex Ryan had been quite consistent in his claims and boasts then. However, the Jets ended up losing ended up losing the game against the New York Giants. As if the embarrassment suffered in the game wasn’t enough, he then took to boasts of winning the Super
Bowl but that too didn’t materialize and the Jets were seen eliminated by a much weaker side. And now he plans to work more with the offense.
"I will definitely be around the offense more, there's no doubt. My first year, in all the minicamps, I was putting in the defence, but I would go to different meetings. Going back on it, I think I had a much better idea of our team back then." Ryan said.
However, Ryan has been hit by a few critics on the ground that he is never fully aware of the team as a whole. One such example could be seen in the last game against the Miami Dolphins when Ryan was unaware of the fact that Santonio Holmes had been benched
by the offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for causing a penalty to the Jets. Holmes act of celebrating a touchdown by taking off his shirt to some extent had revealed an inner jersey and brought in a penalty. Such lack of awareness is sure to bring
in criticism for the coach.
"This team is my responsibility, and again, the criticism needs to be placed on my shoulders. I accept that." Ryan said.
The game against the Miami Dolphins was a crucial one in which the Jets were faced with a must win situation but the players disappointed the team management, coach and their fans.
However, Ryan was found defending Holmes again and regretted that he had been benched. He said there were certain issues with the team that needed to be fixed and said he was disappointed because of them.
To be continued.....
