New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan asks linebacker Bart Scott to appreciate fans – NFL News
A day after New York Jets linebacker publicly criticised the behaviour of their fans, head coach Rex Ryan counselled the player for his actions on Thursday, November 29, 2012. It was the first thing the coach did after arriving at the practice facility.
Ryan condemned the reaction given by Scott about the behaviour of the fans in the stadium during Week 12 home game against New England Patriots which the team lost miserably by 19-49. According to ESPN.com, Ryan said:
"I had a conversation with Bart, and what I said I'll (stand) behind: That our fans deserve better. And I was the first guy that would say that. With us, what I mentioned to Bart, you have to appreciate the fans. The thing that makes this game so great is
the players and the fans, and that's the truth.”
Scott took a shot at fans on Wednesday comparing them as people who would be picked at the last position as members of their dodge ball team. Scott was available to the media on Thursday and annotated his remarks about the fans. Scott said:
"Of course, I'm going to protect my team and protect my organization, but I understand that they pay good money. I'm well aware of that. It's freedom of speech. You can say what you want as long as nobody gets physical or puts their hands on you."
Scott carried on the notion that the fans have been a bit too much critical of the team during last few weeks.
The linebacker’s comments come in the aftermath of a video posted on one of the fan-based websites which showed the home fans using profane language against the Jets players as they went into the tunnel after a disastrous second quarter against Patriots.
Jets will again face their disgruntled fans as they host Arizona Cardinals for Week 13 tie next Sunday on December 02, 2012.
