New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes his team is not where he wants – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was back to his usual self on Monday, November 05, 2012, after a silent bye week and wasted no time to say something spicy.
Talking about the Jets chances for the playoffs, Ryan emphasised that the team is currently just focusing on improving their performance. According to the New York Daily News, Ryan said:
"I can't tell you how excited I am. I know we're not where we want to be. We're not even close. We're not sniffing the playoffs. We're not sniffing anything right now. But I want to get there. I'm excited about the prospects in front of us."
The comments made by Ryan are justified as the Jets (3-5) are currently not in the position to dream about playing in the postseason.
Ryan indicated that the team has worked on several issues during the bye week despite facing turbulent weather conditions in New York.
One of those issues included the problems faced by starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has been at the lowest point of his career.
The coach reiterated that he will not make any changes at quarterback as the Jets head into Week 10 to face Seattle Seahawks.
Ryan revealed that the offensive coordinator Tony Sparano has been doing some fine tuning with the offensive scheme. He also said that the team might go through some tactical changes. Ryan carried on and said:
"We will be doing some different things, I don't want to get into the specifics of it. If there's an advantage to be gained, then I want to gain that advantage without letting our opponent know. I'm excited about trying to implement some of these things.
I'm not going to say that they're radical."
Ryan also pointed out that he has been evaluating backup quarterback Tim Tebow’s work on the field. The coach also signalled that Tebow will likely have an increased role even though he might not take many snaps at quarterback, though the changes might not
be radical,
Jets are in a desperate need to improve their performance if they want to have any chance of securing a playoff berth.
