New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan cannot contain his excitement for the newest addition to the Jets offensive roster, wide receiver, Stephen Hill.
Hill was drafted by the Jets in the second round as the 43rd overall pick after the franchise traded up from 47th to land the talented youngster.
The Jets gave the Seattle Seahawks a fifth and seventh round selection as compensation for the move.
Ryan talking in a radio interview with ESPN Radio New York lavished praise on the wide receiver.
"This guy can play. The numbers, he only had like 28 catches or something like that, but it's in that option offense (at Georgia Tech). And he did average 29 yards a catch.”
The head coach also went to compare Hill’s college record with that of Keith Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles who came in with a similar low number of college catches before going on to become a six-time Pro Bowler in the National Football League (NFL).
"It kind of reminds me of when my dad took Keith Jackson when he was with the Eagles. I think Keith Jackson only had 19 catches, and I think he made the Pro Bowl his first year as a rookie. Hopefully that will happen here with Stephen."
Hill’s arrival at the Jets will provide another option for starting quarterback, Mark Sanchez and take pressure off Santonio Holmes to make plays.
The wide receiver made just 49 receptions in his career with Georgia Tech University but Ryan is confident that he can go on to become a great addition to the roster for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
"He's got incredible potential for us, and we expect him to contribute for sure."
Hill will have to prove that he is deserving of such lavish praise from his new coach. The Jets missed out on the playoffs last year but this year they are looking to go all out to get back among the elite teams of the NFL and the young receiver will have
to deliver on his undoubted potential.
Hopefully for coach, Rex Ryan his confidence in Hill’s abilities will be validated in the upcoming season.
