New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan furious on rumours regarding asking the team to get fired – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has taken a shot at reports that said that the coach is asking the team administration to fire him unless there are some wholesale changes in the offence during the upcoming offseason.
Ryan looked agitated when asked about the rumours circulating in the media. The coach was available to the media on Friday, December 28, 2012. He said:
"That is totally untrue. The fact is -- and it's simple -- this is the only team that I want to coach, period. And I think anybody that knows me knows that I'm telling you the truth."
Ryan said that he was fuming when he read the articles published in various newspapers that pointed out his willingness to leave the Gang Green.
The coach held a meeting with the players early on Friday and the players later described the mood of the head coach as being so depressing that it led to Ryan openly crying in front of his players.
Reports coming in the media indicated that Ryan is looking for a way out of the circus currently prevailing in the Jets’ camp. However, Ryan reiterated that Jets are the only team he wants to coach. Ryan carried on and said:
"Let's face it, I wear Jets stuff every single day. I'm proud to be a Jet. Sometimes I'm proud to be a Jet more than others -- this season has been a rough one -- but this is my team. That's how I approach it. I believe that we can accomplish what I set
out to do when I took the job. And that's the truth."
Some Jets players also expressed their views about the reports and showed their dissatisfaction about the issue.
Ryan still has two years left in his contract that will give the coach a sum of $6 million. However, Ryan pointed towards his intention to stay with Jets for as many as 15 more years. Jets have failed to reach the playoffs in the last two seasons.
