New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan greatly impressed with LB Demario Davis - NFL News
It seems that one draft pick has really caught the eye of New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan during the rookie minicamp which ended on Sunday.
That rookie was linebacker, Demario Davis who the Jets picked in the third round with their 77th overall pick during the 2012 drafts and Ryan seems significantly impressed by the 23-year-old.
Ryan speaking to The Star-Ledger looked happy at the way Lewis had performed during camp and said that he saw a little of his former player and one of the best linebackers in the history of the sport, Ray Lewis, in the youngster.
"Wow. ... This is amazing. He reminds me of Ray (Lewis),"
After that comparison, Davis now has to live up to the high expectations from the fans and his teammates, however, Ryan clarified that in his personality and the manner in which he conducted himself was a reminder to him of Lewis.
Adding further he said, that the youngster will be a big contributor to the upcoming 2012-13 season for the Jets.
“As a coach, you try to cultivate the environment, no question about it, but when you really have it is when your players take it. I think he’s going to be one of those guys, fit right in with David Harris, and Sione (Pouha) and Mike DeVito. This is their
football team.”
“Like Tom Brady in New England. Tom Brady runs that team. He runs it, runs the discipline. Runs everything.”
It seems that the Jets may have found a hidden gem in the low profile linebacker.
They will need to find plenty more if they wish to become a better team than last season in 2011-12. The Jets ended last year with a poor 8-8 record and failed to make it to the playoffs as they struggled with locker room squabbles between players.
With the high profile falling out between quarterback, Mark Sanchez and his favoured wide receiver, Santonio Holmes, the Jets season was doomed to failure.
Now though the team has more or less tried to get each player back on the same page and with Holmes and Sanchez back on speaking terms, the franchise is fired up about its prospects for the upcoming season.
