New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has big plans for QB Tim Tebow - NFL News
Tim Tebow may have officially joined the New York Jets as a backup quarterback to starter Mark Sanchez but stories emanating from the Jets seem to show that Tebow is not your ordinary backup.
Head coach Rex Ryan in an interview with the NFL Network spoke about his plans for Tebow and said that the ex-Denver Broncos quarterback will play a major role in the upcoming 2012-13 season.
"Tim is going to be a major contributor to our football team. With the Wildcat specifically, the great thing is you don't know if we're going to run it one snap a game or 20 snaps a game -- you have no idea. Every week, it could be different. That's some
of the preparation problems he gives you."
That does not seem like a plan for a backup quarterback.
Mark Sanchez though has been relatively mum over the whole Tim Tebow affair and both Ryan and owner Woody Johnson have come out to tone down talk of any quarterback controversy while repeatedly saying that Sanchez remains the starter.
Ryan will hope that Tebow gives the Jets an edge and will turn into a uniting factor in a locker room that last season was the epitome of dysfunction.
The Jets season imploded in the final half of the 2011-12 regular season as dressing room conflicts and decreasing productivity from Sanchez kept the Jets out of the playoffs for the first time under Ryan.
The head coach though says that the team have learnt their lessons and they will show a different attitude in the new season.
"I truly believe Tim is going to fit in to our locker room. What I believe is the strength of our team the last two years was our locker room. Obviously we learned what happened from this past year and things. I'm tired of dwelling on it, to be honest with
you. Our team is close."
Tebow’s arrival has led to differentiating opinions from both fans and players with some criticising the move as PR while others have praised Tebow’s arrival as the competition required to get the best out of Sanchez.
For now though the Jets should concentrate on building the team that gives them the best chance of winning games.
