New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan praises Tennessee Titans’ offence ahead of Week 15 tie – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has gone on the praising spree of their upcoming opponents Tennessee Titans. The coach lauded the Titans quarterback Jake Locker and wide receiver Chris Johnson on Friday, December 14, 2012.
Ryan said that the Jets defence would face considerable pressure from the likes of Johnson and company. According to Ryan, Johnson is still one of the lethal tailbacks playing in the league. Ryan said:
“He’s still one of the leading rushers in the league. He’s a dangerous guy. He’s somebody, every time he touches it, you hold your breath. He’s that kind of athlete, so a dropoff in play? I don’t know. I don’t necessarily see it because he’s the same explosive
guy to me on tape.”
Johnson has seen a considerable decline in his output, but the player is still capable enough to put 1,000 rushing yards in a season as he has already done this year.
The running back is averaging 4.7 yards per carry this season, the highest since the 2,000-yard season in 2009.
Over the years, defences under Ryan’s leadership have done a good job in keeping Johnson under control.
During Ryan’s time with the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive coordinator in the 2008 season, the defence managed to keep Johnson to just 18 carries for 44 rushing yards.
Although Johnson followed up with good performance next year, Titans lost against Ryan’s team.
In last eight games Jets defence has allowed just 4.0 yards per carry.
Ryan also praised the way Locker has led the Titans offence this season. Ryan went on and said:
“He’s a special athlete, I don’t think there’s any doubt, a guy that presents a ton of problems for you. It’s strange, but they’ll pass more than you think. Having Chris Johnson back there, you’d think it would almost be the other way around, but they’re
balanced, maybe more leaning on the pass than the run.”
Ryan’s admiration for Locker just shows how hungry the coach is about getting good performances from his own quarterbacks.
