New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan ready to beat New England Patriots on their turf – NFL News
After getting a dominating 37-9 victory in Week 6 against Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is upbeat to take the next step and defeat their American Football Conference (AFC) East rivals New England Patriots next week.
Confidently talking about his team’s chances against the Pats, Ryan said on Monday, October 15 2012:
"I want them to know -- and they know -- I think we're going to beat them. I don't buy into all that other stuff. Look, I recognize they're a great football team and Belichick's a great coach. I've never once said he wasn't, OK, but we're not going to back
down or concede anything. They're going to get our best shot. We know we're going to get theirs.”
It is not the first time that Ryan has publicly expressed his emotions for Patriots. He has previously said in 2009 that he would never ever kiss the Super Bowl ring of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Ryan’s comments are backed up by his 3-4 record against Patriots. Not many coaches have the ability to beat Patriots in playoffs, a feat Ryan has achieved before. Yet, Ryan admits that one cannot beat Patriots easily. Ryan said:
"Are they more vulnerable? I don't know. They've lost three games. That's probably more than they normally lose in a season. We need to worry about ourselves more than anybody else."
AFC West is currently wide open with all the teams currently standing at 3-3. Jets have already defeated Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills in the division, and will take the top spot on Sunday if they beat Patriots.
Patriots have surprisingly underperformed this season. In six weeks, they have lost the same number of games they did throughout the 2011 season.
Ryan also said that Patriots are always a team to beat when it comes to their division. Jets’ win on Sunday will depend on which Jets’ team takes the field; an injury-plagued one that appeared in Week 5 loss against Houston Texans or an exciting team that
played in Week 6.
