New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan reaffirms that his team did not quit during Week 4 loss – NFL News
New York Jets were whipped by San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, September 30, 2012, in their Week 4 game by 34-0, which led to 49ers’ Carlos Rogers saying that the Jets had quitted during the game. However, Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes that was not the
case.
Ryan completely rejected Rogers’ opinion during the news conference on Wednesday, October 03, 2012.
The Jets head coach gave the stance that although his team got a severe beating in the game, there was no moment when they had quitted. Ryan said:
"When you look at it, certainly we didn't play well. It's obvious we didn't (play) as well to his standards, either. As far as us quitting, there's no way. That wasn't the case. We got beat, there's no doubt about it, no two ways about it, and we've talked
about that.”
Ryan’s comments come as a reply to what Rogers said on Tuesday, October 02. Talking to Sirius XM NFL Radio, Rogers defined Jets’ performance as shocking.
In his interview, Rogers said that the Jets wanted to get to the locker room as soon as possible and did not want to continue playing on the field. Rogers said:
"Yeah, you could see it happening. It kind of shocked me because a lot of guys on (our) sideline were saying, 'They don't want to tackle’. That's a Rex Ryan team ... and his defence, you know, plays throughout. That was the shocking point about it.”
Jets defence looked particularly awful towards the end of the game, when 49ers were running the ball very easily. 49ers scored half of their total points during the final quarter of the game.
The defence let 245 rushing yards during the game which was the highest in Ryan’s tenure with Jets. Ryan reasoned fatigue behind the defence’s misery in the final quarter.
Rogers was part of the play in which Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes got injured. When Holmes got injured he let the ball out of his hand which was returned by Rogers for a touchdown.
Whether Jets defence gave up during the game or not, they will certainly have to pick their game up in order to stand any chance against unbeaten Houston Texans in their Week 5 game.
