New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan says Tim Tebow is likely to be available for Week 13 – NFL News
New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow has been in the headlines of late. The reason for that is not the usual quarterback debate, but it is his rib injury that has been getting all the attention.
Tebow was looking under great pain while on the bench during Jets’ 19-49 defeat against New England Patriots in Week 12.
However, Ryan insisted on Monday, November 26, 2012, that Tebow will be available for Week 13 game against Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, December 02. According to the Associated Press, Ryan said:
"I anticipate him being ready to go, but we'll see. People have played with cracked ribs before. But, again, I wasn't going to use him unless we absolutely had to use him. That's happened before with other players as well."
Jets were back on the practice field on Monday after a long break of three days. Tebow was active on the field wearing uniform during the 30 minutes of media availability.
Tebow’s rib injury has been controversial ever since it occurred. The injury became official last Friday, November 23, after Jets said that the initial X–rays that were taken after Week 10 game against Seattle Seahawks had come out negative.
Even though Tebow remained active as a backup to starting quarterback Mark Sanchez in the next two games, he had very little playing time on the field.
Ryan reiterated what he said after Patriots game that he would have never allowed Tebow to be available as a backup if doctors would not have cleared him to be game-fit.
Ryan indicated that Tebow insisted to participate in the game and the coach had no reason to let the player down. Ryan went on and said:
"I considered putting Greg up and having (Tebow down), but he's like, 'Coach, I'm fine. I can go.' He wanted to. He came to the stadium early and he was ready to play -- in his eyes and in the doctors' and trainers' that he could play. That was why I made
the decision to have him there as a backup quarterback only."
