New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan says Tim Tebow’s availability for Week 13 will be game-time decision – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has not yet decided on backup quarterback Tim Tebow’s availability for Week 13 game against Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, December 02, 2012.
Giving the team’s final injury report before the game on Friday, November 30, Ryan said that Tebow’s status will be a game-time decision. He said:
"I haven't made that decision or anyone else made that decision. Whether there is speculation or not that's a decision that I have to make."
There have been various reports circulating in the media that Jets have already decided to sit Tebow for the game in order for the player to heal his broken ribs.
However, Ryan has indicated that there could be chances that Tebow might play in a role other than quarterback’s during the game. Ryan said:
"With Tim, some of the things that he can do specifically in the Wildcat and as a personal protector, you're not asking him to go out and throw it 50 times a game. I think if that was the case, then I'm not sure he could do that."
Tebow was listed as limited, and according to different reports, he had as few as five reps in practice sessions during the week. He told the media of having problems in throwing the ball, but did not rule himself out of the upcoming fixture. Tebow said:
"(I'm) slowly progressing with things every day and it'll be up to coach and the docs."
Ryan signalled that there is a less chance that the team will activate all three quarterbacks for the game and indicated that he will likely put wide receiver Jeremy Kerley at quarterback position in case of emergency.
Jets third-tier quarterback Greg McElroy took most of the snaps as a backup quarterback during the practice sessions this week. He remains optimistic of getting a first chance to get active for the game this season.
Tebow fractured two of his ribs during Week 10 game against Seattle Seahawks, but the injury was diagnosed a day before Week 12 game against New England Patriots.
