New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan taking more interest in team affairs - NFL News
After last season’s disastrous end the New York Jets had to change things around and that is exactly what is occurring during trainings.
According to Jets cornerback, Darrelle Revis, head coach, Rex Ryan is taking a more proactive approach to the team’s offence this year and is more vocal in training than they have ever seen before.
The cornerback was speaking to the Star-Ledger on Monday and said that after last season’s debacle and missing out on the playoffs, the head coach is involving himself more in the team’s preparations for the upcoming season.
"He did fade off a little bit, I don’t know what reason for, but he's the head coach, he has a lot on his plate, a lot of pressure. It's just something that maybe he thought he put more trust in the coaching staff, and seeing that it kind of hurt us last
year, maybe, a little bit."
Ryan took a back seat last season and left things up to his coaching staff to sort out however, things did not pan out as he hoped as internal squabbles and feuds between players completely destroyed team harmony in a year when the head coach had promised
fans the Super Bowl.
The feud between quarterback, Mark Sanchez and wide receiver, Santonio Holmes particularly hurt the team and the Jets went on to lose all three of their final games to end up with a poor 8-8 record.
Revis went on to add.
“Not to frown on any coaches or anything, how they coached, but it’s good to see your head coach being involved, at least just putting his two cents in. You just hear his voice every now and then in the meeting room, so I think it is good."
The cornerback also said that Ryan did not have an idea over the conflicts in the dressing room and only found out when everything blew out into the media.
He said Ryan wants to prevent that same thing from happening again.
Before last season, the Jets had twice consecutively reached the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship games.
This year they will be looking to once again repeat their earlier successes under Ryan’s tenure and the team is preparing hard for the upcoming season.
