New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan upbeat about facing Bill Belichick and New England Patriots – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has a dream for a long time to overtake Bill Belichick’s classy New England Patriots team as American Football Conference (AFC) West’s best team.
Ryan will get another shot at fulfilling his dream as both teams face each other in Week 7 on Sunday, October 21, 2012.
However, when it comes to coaching a team, Ryan admits that Belichick is way better. Talking to the media on Wednesday, October 18, 2012, Ryan said:
"If it's just between Bill Belichick and me, he's going to win that battle, I recognize that,"
Even though Ryan acknowledges Belichick’s work, he himself has a very good head-to-head record against Patriots.
Ryan has won three games against Patriots and has lost four. This record is way better than most of the coaches in the league.
Both teams are currently facing different circumstances and have shown different level of performances this season.
Despite Patriots playing much better than Jets this season, both teams are tied in the division standings with a 3-3 record.
Jets have an opportunity to go on top of their division if they manage to beat Patriots on Sunday.
Ryan’s team has been working out ways all this week to stop the Patriots up-tempo offence that gives no time for the opposing defence to settle down. Ryan said on Friday, October 19, Ryan said:
“Obviously, it’s hard to simulate their tempo, their no-huddle, how precise [Tom] Brady is and those types of things, but we did our best. We did our best out there. Guys are still here watching tape and things. Obviously, you have to do a good enough job
to get them off the field. You can’t let them keep driving the football like they do. Obviously, we know we’re going to get a great effort. We’ll see what happens on Sunday.”
Ryan has indicated that he might play Tebow as a running back against Patriots in order to add a surprising factor in the offence. Tebow performed well in previous two games against Patriots in his time with Denver Broncos.
