New York Jets hoping Darrelle Revis will be ready to go against the Denver Broncos
The New York Jets get set to take on one of the top passing offences in the NFL and will want to have all their defensive weapons on hand, including Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis, as they travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.
How they match up
The Denver Broncos 25th ranked run defence will have to try to stop the NFL's best running game. With the one-two punch of Shonn Greene and a rejuvenated LaDainian Tomlinson, the Jets are picking up right where they left off last season when they had the
league's number one rushing offence.
The other key match-up will be Kyle Orton versus the New York Jets secondary. Nobody has been able to run effectively against the Jets so far this season as they have yet to allow a rusher to run for 100 yards; even the fearsome Adrian Peterson could only
manage 88. As a result most teams have taken to the air against the Jets hoping especially to capitalize on the absence of Darrelle Revis who has been in and out of the line-up for the Jets this season with a nagging hamstring injury.
Revis is once again questionable and will be a game-time decision for head coach Rex Ryan. Orton and the Broncos have been tremendous through the air this season and even chalked up 314 yards passing against the formidable Baltimore Ravens defence.
Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal have been effective catching the ball with 30 and 29 receptions respectively, with the former averaging an astonishing 19.6 yards per catch.
Recent records
This will be the last game for the Jets before they get their bye and they have the chance to go into their bye week with an impressive 5-1 record. Since losing their season opener to the Baltimore Ravens, the Jets collected three consecutive wins against
divisional opponents before beating Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings last week. Mark Sanchez continues to impress as Jets quarterback and still has yet to throw an interception this season.
The Broncos are faced with probably their toughest test of the season going up against the Ravens and Jets in back-to-back weeks. After improving to 2-2 with a win in Tennessee, the Broncos fell to 3-2 on the season with last week's loss to the Ravens.
What to expect
If the Broncos look to somehow get a win using the same game plan they used against the Ravens they will be in for a long afternoon. The Broncos will have to exploit other areas of their game besides their pass offence if they hope to have any chance of
winning.
The Jets are flying high with confidence and appear to be playing better every game. LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene helped lead the Jets to 155 rushing yards against a very strong Vikings defence, and they will now be up against a not-so-formidable
Broncos side. Look for the Jets offensive line to create some huge gaps. Greene should be good for at least one big gain for a touchdown.
Jets win it 31-20.
