New York Jets impose fine of $10,000 on Bart Scott – NFL News
New York Jets player Bart Scott has been fined $10,000 for using filthy language and making an obscene gesture at a news photographer. The incident had occurred in the locker team earlier on Monday.
Frustration was evident among the Jets players after the season ending defeat they sustained at the hands of the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. As a result several players refused to speak to the media a day after the humiliating
loss. Scott was too aggressive and out of control on Monday when the Jets were busy clearing up their lockers. Scott reportedly walked out of the locker room with a garbage bag in a bad mood. One of the photographer tried getting near to Scott and that had
him infuriated. Scott used abusive language towards the photographer who had the camera close to him.
"Get that f ----- thing out of my face." Scott said.
That was followed by an obscene gesture in which he showed his middle finger to the photographer.
This incident had grabbed the immediate attention of Head coach Rex Ryan who appeared disappointed and said that action would be taken against the linebacker.
"We'll address it. That's not acceptable in dealing with the media." Ryan had said on Tuesday, a day after the incident occurred.
The Jets team issued a statement denouncing Scott for the act.
"Bart's actions were inappropriate and unacceptable," read the statement released by the Jets.
This season the Jets have remained in trouble for using abusive language and making obscene gestures. Earlier on it was their coach who got into trouble not once but twice. The latest one occurred when during a game against the
New England Patriots, a fan had shouted to Ryan that the Patriots coach Bill Belichick was better than him. That enraged Ryan who had then used vulgar language towards the fan. The incident was caught on camera and the video was put on the net. The Jets lost
that game 37-17 to the Patriots.
Later though, Ryan was apologetic over the incident and offered his regrets saying he was not perfect and sometimes his emotions got the better of him. However, that did not help Ryan as he was handed over a hefty $75,000 fine
by the NFL.
And before that Ryan had made another obscene gesture at a fan at mixed martial arts events in 2010 that resulted in a fine of $50,000 being slapped on the coach by the Jets. Since that incident had not occurred during a game,
therefore action was taken by the team and not by the NFL.
Scott will not be facing any other action apart from serving the fine. This was confirmed by the NFL spokesman Greg Aiello who said that the fine imposed by the Jets was not enough.
