New York Jets legend Joe Namath picks apart the team’s administration – NFL News
New York Jets legend and former quarterback Joe Namath has always been a healthy critic of Jets owner Woody Johnson. However, he has kept his silence in recent times about the team’s dismal performance this season.
Now Namath has finally broken his silence. Taking to SportsNet New York on Wednesday, November 07, 2012, Namath blasted Jets’ administration for making wrong decisions that has hurt the team’s output on the field.
Namath pointed out clearly that the management has been making false claims of putting emphasis on the field rather than selling tickets. Namath said:
"I think that the fans haven't been given a fair shake. I don't think they get a straight story, often enough, from the powers that be. I think it's kind of condescending talk a bunch of times, telling us how they're developing and who they're getting.”
During the entire talk, Johnson remained the main target of criticism. Namath said that the team has been disrespectful of backup quarterback Tim Tebow and his talent as they acquired him only to create hype.
Tebow has taken only 55 snaps this season and after all the fuss, the wildcat package has failed to live up to the expectations.
The former Hall of Famer carried on further and reiterated that the Jets roster has been falling down in terms of talent. There are not many players who can take Jets to the playoffs. Namath further said:
"I think the focus is changed, subtly. It's more toward grabbing headlines, and everything starts at the top. And you can go back to when the seat licenses were initiated, how we started conducting things. I don't think winning has been put at the top of
the board. Winning headlines has replaced that."
Jets have struggled massively this season and are facing a situation to miss playoffs for the second season in a row.
Things are getting from bad to worse for Jets and their head coach Rex Ryan as the injury-plagued team is going through games without success on both sides of the ball.
The Gang Green is in a must-win situation now.
